Three well known area artists – Shannon Sargent, John Bowitz and Cory Knedler have installed their joint exhibit entitled “Collaborationism” at the Arts Center, 200 Central Ave SE. The exhibit runs from December 1 through January 29, gallery hours are Thursday through Sunday from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.
Sargent is the Exhibitions/Collections Coordinator at the Sioux City Arts Center.
Bowitz is Professor and Chair of the Art Department at Morningside College; working with mixed media.
Knedler is the Chair and Art Education assistant professor at the University of South Dakota and a printmaker.
Sargent describes “Collaborationism” as the impact of an individual on the
decision-making process of an artist which produces a dialog between an influential
other and an artist that has been recorded via art. Knedler adds that the collaboration
is the recycling of imagery by an artist
or artists using imagery
made by others in their art to make their own statement about
the world or the art world or themselves.
A Meet the Artists reception has been set for Saturday, December 3
from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. A gallery talk will take place at 5:00 p.m.
According to Kathy Moore, Executive Director of the Le Mars Arts Council,
“this is the best time to view a new exhibit, when you can speak to the
artists as they share their enthusiasm for their works.”
The date of the reception also coordinates with the Le Mars Lighted Christmas Parade, so the Arts Center will open before and during the parade serving coffee and cocoa to all who stop by. This puts together a great family evening – seeing an exciting art exhibit, meeting artists and viewing the parade.
