Westmar College Music Lending Library
The Westmar College Music Lending Library opens on Saturday, November 14, 2009. When Westmar University finally closed its doors in 1996, the mayor of Le Mars placed all of the Music Department files in the hands of the Le Mars Arts Council, the sentiment being music has to be used - not stored. It has been a long rough road, but the northeast room in the lower level of the Arts Center is now the Westmar College Music Lending Library. To expand the concert band selections, the Le Mars Municipal band has joined their files with ours.
The Library is open for use by any college, university, high school district, private school, church or community ensemble. Both vocal and concert band music is available for use. A lending fee of $5 per title (much cheaper than purchasing) is requested by the Le Mars Arts Council Board of Directors to assist with facility expenses. A late fee will be charged if all or any files are not returned by agreed upon time. All organizations are required to follow copy right laws for reproducing the music. The library is open Thursday through Sunday from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. or by appointment. This is a new adventure for the Le Mars Arts Council so helpful suggestions will be appreciated.
