The
Vivian Miller, from Akron, will be teaching our
Da Vinci II after-school class for students in
grades 2 through 5. We did need to change the day for this
class from Tuesday to Wednesday, but the time remains the same, 3:45
p.m. to 4:45 p.m. Miller is a mom who home-schools her
children and has many ideas for the aspiring artists who will take
this class. There is a $35 dollar fee for the 12 week class.
A second new teacher at the Arts Center is Jean Weiner.
She is even new to the area. She will be teaching
Freeform Watercolor at two sessions each Wednesday.
This class will continue as long as there are students, so
pre-registration is very important. The afternoon session is
from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and the evening session from 6:00 p.m.
to 8:00 p.m. An information packet about the class, fees and
the teacher is available at the Arts Center.
Dennis Wolf will be instructing the Basics
of Floral Design in four sessions. This class is a
collaborative effort of the Plymouth County Extension Service, the
Le Mars Arts Council and the Floyd Valley Federated Garden Club.
The first two classes will meet at the Arts Center on February 16
and March 16 at 6:30 p.m. The third session will be at the 4-H
Discovery Day at the Convention Center on Saturday, April 17 from
9:00 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. and the last in the same place on Saturday,
May 8 at 9:00 to 11:00 p.m. There will be a packet of
information available when registration is completed by calling the
Arts Center at 546-7476.
I also wanted to remind the readers that the Shining Stars
Show Choir resumes rehearsals on Tuesday, February 9
after-school at the Arts Center. We are still looking for new
students in grades 3 through 6. There are no auditions and the
only requirement is that the family lives within driving distance.
The Le Mars Flute Choir has set its first winter
rehearsal for Sunday, February 28 at 2:00 p.m. at the Arts Center.
This group is open to any flute player playing at an advanced high
school level. Bring your calendar to the first session so
other rehearsal and concert dates can be found. The group
requests donations of music or cash to purchase music as an “entry
fee.”
We are always looking for talented volunteers to help us keep our
programs running. If you like to teach art, plan events, would
like to assist with LMAC Board committee work, or even if you
are great with a video camera – we can use your help. Just
call and talk to Kathy Moore, the Executive Director at 546-7476.
We keep planning ahead at the Arts Center. Please look for
information about birthday parties and an Easter Eggstravaganza
coming out soon.
Meet the Artists on Friday, February 12 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. At this time, we will have a fun game set up to see if visitors can match faces and tattoos of people from Le Mars. Other activities are in the making, so check us out. Refreshments will be served.

Very soon artists and friends of the arts will be contacted for our second “Sittin’ Pretty” fund raiser. Terri Schroeder and Becky Wiersma have been collecting and tidying chairs. If you didn’t get a chance to participate as an artist last year, please call the arts center NOW so we can get your name on the list.
